News or not
Treasury Wine Estates has sold non-core commercial brands in the US, according to news reports. We are told there are 12 of them with total sales of about 1 million cases a year, but we haven’t been told their names or buyers or a price, so news is no news at all.
Decanter Magazine has published an article saying chablis wines from the 2016 vintage will increase in price because of bad weather. OK, this is understandable, but why would the consumer pay more because the vintage is short? Why not wait until there is more wine from a better vintage? After all, chablis is not exactly investment wine. We feel sorry for any wine producer that has a poor vintage and the crop is down, but that is the business they are in.
