Grape Expectations, 26 March: Writer: Max Crus (Simon Hughes)
At some point in the week these reviews and article will appear in The Daily Examiner (Grafton), The Northern Star (Lismore), Border Mail (Albury), Rotary Down Under (National), Australian Petroleum Marketer News (National) and The Daily Advertiser, (Wagga Wagga)
Hillcrest Premium Yarra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, 2013, $70. We seldom encounter corks now but they’re a lovely reminder of forgotten rituals. Then you forget and just drink the wine, which with this is easy to do. 8.8/10.
Hillcrest Yarra Valley Premium Pinot Noir 2013, $70. Riding the crest of a hill is almost as much fun as a wave with a delicious pinot in hand. 9.1/10.
Four Winds Vineyard Canberra District Shiraz 2014, $30. Just when you think lunch is over you find something else to eat, but what to drink? Perfect lunch closer, with almost pinot like delight. 9/10.
(Four Winds Vineyard) Tom’s Block Shiraz 2014, $30. Not sure of the significance of the label’s Tiger Moth, but how about that for design? Many are still flying today! 8.5/10.
Heartland (Langhorne Creek) Directors Cut Cabernet Sauvignon, 2013, $33. This could be a regular directors cut and go for about three hours, if you’re on your own, or in about 15 minutes with six of you. 8.9/10.
Heartland ‘One’ Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2013, $80. If you’re only going to have one, have One, this one, THE One. It’s an expensive one, One, so you can only afford one One, but it’s one One you won’t forget. 9.2/10.
